Shaving Sesitive Skin With A Vintage Safety Razor

Shaving Sesitive Skin With A Vintage Safety Razor

Question from Dupuis of France 13 May 2012.

Q: Hello, I am contacting you because I have a Gillette line of the British Aristocrat No. 22 that was made in England is very nice but the problem is that I have irritated skin with blades. Please you advise me of good blades for sensitive skin?

Thank you very much for your answers.

A: Dupuis, the Aristocrat is a very special razor, I hope you enjoy it. No matter how good the razor is you need to use good quality blades to get the close, smooth and comfortable shave we all crave.

The fact that you have sensitive skin means you have to choose your shaving kit very carefully.

Use a face friendly shaving cream applied with a brush, a good range of creams is available from Fitjar of Norway. I love their Norwegian Fern Shaving Cream, also consider Castle Forbes Lavender Shaving Cream which is specifically for those with sensitive skin.

In my opinion, you should go with the sharpest blades which are from Feather. Feather Double Edge Safety Razor Bladesare incredibly sharp the benefit for you being less passes with the razor are required to get a very close yet comfortable shave. I get a close shave which is good enough for working days with only two passes, my Saturday night shave still requires three passes just in case I bump into Penelope Cruz (keep dreaming Brian).

In conclusion Dupuis, use only sharp blades and face friendly shaving products, avoid to many passes on the face and always moisturise after shaving.
