Skin Preparation - How To Prepare Your Skin Properly For A Wet Shave

To achieve the perfect shaving experience skin preparation is an essential factor.
Good pre-shave preparation will deliver superior razor glide and reduce cuts, nicks, and skin irritation such as razor burn, razor bumps, ingrown hairs and razor rash.

Follow our pre-shave guide below to achieve a great, smooth, close shave.

Step 1: It is recommended you shave after showering. Then, wash your face with warm water, this will help to soften the beard leading to a closer shave.

Step 2: Use a good quality pre shave treatment, such as a pre shave soap, cream or water soluble Pre Shave Oil. This will deliver a layer of lubrication and protection to your face helping the razor blade to glide over the skin and not dig in.

Step 3: Use a shaving brush to create a rich, thick lather from your shaving soap or shaving cream. Your lather should have no bubbles and no runs, if it does, simply add a little more soap or cream and keep lathering. The lather shouldn't be sticky, if it is sticky, apply a few drops of water to the mix. As a guide, the consistency of the lather should be rich and creamy similar to yoghurt.

Step 4: Apply the lather to the area to be shaved with a badger hair or synthetic hair shaving brush. By using a painting motion with the bristles of the brush an even lather will be made. This motion lifts the hairs by going against the natural growth of the beard and produces a rich creamy lather that ensures the blade glides effortlessly across your face.

Your face is now ready to shave.
