How to Care for Your Shaving Brush Video Tutorial

In the short video tutorial below Brian, our resident shaving expert at Executive Shaving, shares his tips and advice on how to best care for your shaving brush.

This is a topic that we discuss with wet shavers on a daily basis. If you follow Brian’s tips and take care of your brush during and after shaving there is no reason why a good quality shaving brush should not last up to ten years or more.

It is very important that you look after your shaving brush.

Look after the shaving brush, one like this Executive Shaving false horn in best, look after this you are looking at somewhere between five to ten years use. So for the initial outlay of around £30 it is pretty good value for money.

I have just shaved and you can see this brush needs cleaned.

A couple of points before I clean this, when you are shaving don’t force the brush in to the skin; don’t do that, that will damage the hairs, it splays the hairs out.

When you are shaving use a painting motion when you are lathering up.

Be kind to your brush, at all time AVOID HOT water. Hot water will damage the brush, damages the hairs. Hot water can get in to the hair at the handle of the brush and eventually rot the hairs. Mould will set in and you will start to get that horrible ‘damp dog’ smell.

Look after your brush and you will get many years form it.

So, imagine I have just finished shaving I’m going to rinse this brush out in running luke-warm water, so again not hot water.

Hold the brush like this, gently squeeze out the lather, you don’t have to overdo this.

Squeeze it out.

Flick it over the sink once or twice.

Gently squeeze with a dry towel.

Gently draw it across the towel once or twice.

Hang it up on a stand pointing downwards and to allow the brush to dry or aerate naturally we suggest you leave this brush somewhere near an open window.

Thanks for watching.
