Back in November 2019 we took the decision to stop stocking and selling real badger hair shaving brushes after footage emerged of the conditions badgers were being kept in.

Using a good quality badger shaving brush is one of the key requirements to getting that close, smooth, irritation free shave.
Badger hair shaving brushes are categorised into several different grades of quality. You can select from:
Super badger hair shaving brushes
Silvertip badger hair shaving brushes
Best badger hair shaving brushes
Pure badger hair shaving brushes
Mixed badger hair brushes
Super badger shaving brushes and Silvertip badger shaving brushes are the very finest natural shaving brushes you can buy. These brushes are incredibly soft and have excellent water retention properties, which allow them to whip up a rich, thick shaving lather, quickly and easily. Both these grades of badger shaving brush use only the finest hairs, with Super badger brushes undergoing a more extensive dressing and grading process than Silvertip badger brushes.
Best badger shaving brushes contain badger hair that is not of sufficient quality to be classed as super or silvertip. They do have very soft tips, but the body of the hairs is stiffer. This gives a best badger shaving brush more ‘back bone’ which allows it to lather up hard shaving soaps with ease. They are typically more densely filled than the lower quality Pure badger shaving brushes.
Pure badger shaving brushes are typically the cheapest and lowest quality natural badger hair shaving brushes. This grade of hair is coarser and stiffer than best, silvertip or super badger. This hair is also a much darker colour too.
Finally, there is Mixed Badger shaving brushes; these brushes usually contain the very lowest grades of badger hair, which is then mixed with Pure or Best hairs, but can also contain horse or boar hairs too. These mixed badger shaving brushes are very stiff, which makes them good for using with hard shaving soaps.
