Whether you are an old hand or just starting out wet shaving, you can always improve your technique, or the products you are using, to achieve that Baby Butt Smooth (BBS) smooth shave.

Shaving Tips Preparation

Do not jump out of bed and begin shaving straight away. Give your face a chance to get over the puffiness that can be caused by a night with your face buried in a pillow. Give yourself at least ten minutes from getting out of bed in the morning before getting out your razor and beginning to shave. Ideally, shave after showering.

Wash your face with with warm water before shaving, you will benefit from a Pre Shave Oil or Pre Shave Soap. Both will soften the bristles and leave a rich lubricating layer on the face which will lead to a more comfortable shave.

For Best Results Always Use A Shaving Brush

Wet the shaving brush with warm water and either place a small dollop of shaving cream onto centre of the shaving brush, or work the brush into your shaving soap and work up a rich creamy lather, paint this onto the bearded area.

Shaving the face

Using your shaving brush, lather the face in a circular motion. This ensures that you lubricate the skin and get under the beard stubble. To ensure sufficient lather, wet the brush head with more warm water, which when re-applied to the face will create more lather.

Ensure that you always use a sharp blade. We recommend a good quality double edged razor with a clean blade for shaving, both for safety and to ensure a close shave.

Shave with the grain of the hair on your face, repeat twice, if you're looking for a very close shave, shave once against the grain. Shaving your beard stubble against the grain on a first or second pass can cause redness, razor burn and rashes. Only shave against the grain on a third, final pass.

Rinse the head of your razor in warm water frequently. All razor strokes should be slow and deliberate.

After you have finished your shave, rinse your face in warm water and apply an after shave balm or moisturiser, to sooth, replace lost essential facial oils and protect the face.

Maintaining your shaving brush

Once you have finished shaving:

Rinse your shaving brush thoroughly in warm water, squeeze the head of the brush gently and then flick it a few times to get rid of excess water. Place your shaving brush on a brush stand, so the water can drip away from the base of the brush hair.

Never - I repeat - never stand your brush on its end, or keep it inside a cupboard or a bag, as the hair on the brush will smell, create mildew and rot. Place your brush on a stand and leave it to dry where air can circulate around the brush to aerate it naturally.
