Marfin Italian Handmade Silvertip Shaving Brush #255

£250.00

Out of Stock

This is the only brush in the world that is exactly like Marfin #255. To prove it this brush comes with a certificate of authenticity which has been signed by Marco Finardi who painstakingly made the brush. The certificate also features a Marfin wax seal. Additionally #255 is numbered and marked with the Marfin elephant logo. The entire process to make this brush takes around 3 weeks.
Marco made this brush using hand tools only: he is based in Cremona, Italy. Marfin shaving brushes are sold worldwide to buyers who are looking for unusual, handmade and unique shaving brushes.
Silvertip badger hair is a very high grade of hair, it's super-soft on the face; it will easily lather up shaving creams and hard soaps. The silvertip knot was made by a craftsman in Florence, Italy.
The oval shaped handle is made from solid Italian Plateau Briarwood which is mostly dark brown in colour. The natural grain on #255 sweeps and swirls as only Italian Briarwood does. The handle has an almost flat area which is ideal for resting your thumb on while you lather up and a tiny area of black coloured exposed root which adds a dash of additional flair to the handle.

WE SAY

Not as 'way out' as some of Marco's creations, nevertheless #255 is as individual as any other Marfin brush. The quality and colour of this brush reminds me of a classic Alfa Romeo Spider sports car and the Riva speed boats spotted frequently off the Italian coast and lakes.

Marco tells us:
Once I see an interesting piece of Italian Plateau Briarwood, I study its shape closely and imagine how the brush may look with a knot of hair. The ergonomics have to be correct as the brush has to be convenient and comfortable to use.
The root is then cut and trimmed with rasps and files before being sanded with increasingly finer sandpapers. The hole for the knot is then drilled and then the handle is coloured using natural pigments.
The handle is then sealed to make it watertight by dipping it in Tung Oil. This procedure is done in a room with a controlled temperature for a few days before it is dried over two weeks in an airy room.
The brush is then ready for polishing. No less than 4 stages of polishing is required, each stage uses an increasingly fine abrasive powder. The handle is then polished with Carnauba Wax and the knot of hair is cemented into the handle.
