The world famous AS-D2 comes to you in a really smart sparkled burgundy presentation box and a packet of Feather Razor Blades. Founded in Seki city, Japan in 1904 as 'The Japan Safety Razor Company' Feather are known world wide for their precision medical and barber instruments. Seki is the hub for samurai sword manufacturing.
An all time classic, highly effective and beautiful to look at and use.
Handle diameter: 11.1mm
Handle length: 92mm
The knurled handle has a nice deep knurl to ensure a firm grip.
The face has 'FEATHER ALL STAINLESS RAZOR' etch washed into the face.
Internally the top plate has raised corners that the blade sits in, the demanding tolerances Feather use ensures the blade sits exactly bang on centre to give an even blade exposure on either side of the cutting head.
100% all stainless steel.
HOW TO USE
The optimum shaving angle needed for the Feather is around 45° to the face compared to most DE razors which vary from 15-30 degrees.
Works best with Feather Razor Blades as this combination has an extremely sharp blade set in a non aggressive razor leading to less irritation, razor burn and razor bumps.
Ensure the face is well lubricated using a pre shave treatment and a shaving soap, cream or gel
Shave with the razor at a 45° angle to your face using a sharp blade. Stretch your skin as you shave ensuring the area you are shaving is pulled tight. We recommend that you shave twice with the grain and once against the grain.
Took delivery 22 March, shaved with it 22, 23, 25 and 27 March.
I have never had such a smooth, enjoyable and effective shave in my life and I am 66 years young.
In a word - superb.
This razor is unlike anything I've ever used. After some initial problems with it (you have to shave with the handle at a 45 degree angle), I am getting the best shaves I've ever had. Indeed, my shaves are so good that I've been selling off my collection of other razors; I'll never need them again. The price here and the post-purchase support I've gotten from Executive Shaving have been outstanding. Don't waste your money on cheaper alternatives looking for "the one". The Feather AS-D2 is, quite simply, the best out there.
This razor is a thing of beauty and has been giving me my best shaves ever right from the first day. Well worth even penny.
I had read a lot about this razor on Badger + Blade and others, some say too mild, some say too expensive.
I say it's the best razor of all time and not at all expensive, this razor will last me until the grim reaper knocks my door. It will be passed onto one of my sons and no doubt it will outlive him also.
Build quality is A1, magnificent in fact.
I am a precision engineer based in Glasgow, I know about engineering and it was the reputation of this razor that drew me to it.
Simply put, I would be proud to have been associated with the manufacturing of this razor. The she once I got used to the shaving angle was mild yet very close indeed. For the record I am age 54 and have a heavy growth. Despite the toughness of my beard the Feather gave me as close a shave as possible.
Summary: The best!
Shaving Nirvana!! Just received and had my first shave with this beauty. What can I say. I have been using a Merkur Futur for the last few years (having tried numerous others) and was always relatively happy with it until now. The shave that the Feather AS gives is sublime, completely BB smooth after three passes using feather blades and Claus Porto cream it glides over my face and gets through my grows like..well a razor through butter. Having read the reviews I was a bit nervous about spending so much, but it will last a lifetime so the cost over maybe 20 years is nothing, and the shave Oh baby!! no burn, no pull just effortless smoothness. if you are thinking about one don't.. just get it you won't be disappointed.. Thank you Brian for your recommendation, great service as always
no cuts , no burn, it feels right, its heavy ,the quality is full on ,people moan about angle...........its no problem we all are used to shaving at 45 degrees any way ,i love it . im on my second shave and my face is like my 2 year olds ar#@
I have only used this a couple of times out of the box and it is already my go-to. Fantastically smooth razor that has yet to leave cuts, burns or bumps. Highly recommended.
Expensive....yes, worth it?...you bet!...quite simply the smoothest kindest shave possible.....zero nicks, zero cuts, zero burn......I've just sold off my other 6 de razors, this is my everyday shave....MUST use decent blades though....Feather blades an ideal match .....Just buy it, you will never regret getting the best !
You get a very close irritation free shave with no nicks. Mild razor does not mean less close. It means it takes off less skin with the hair (IMHO) and so no burn. This mild razor with very sharp feather blades works best for me. Very well designed, just follow the following instructions: wash face with hot water apply pre shave oil/cream apply lather stretch skin
I've enjoyed my other safety razors, but this Feather AS-D2 is another thing entirely. It felt like a surgical instrument when I first held it, and performed well beyond my expectations. This razor requires more skill to use than most razors... but if you put in the effort, you will be rewarded with a close and comfortable shave. The knurled grip is perfectly slip-proof, weight is distributed evenly for balance, and in spite of its mildness it easily cleans up 2-3 days of growth without any trouble at all.
Just had my first shave with the feather d2 and wow 3 passes and a touch up and it's the closest shave I've ever had , I thought I was having a good shave with my Merkur 34c but this is something else, it is expensive but it does the job brilliantly and the sevice was excellent.
From the very first touch handing the razor you know this exudes quality by the bucket loads. From opening the lovely shiny box to its first shave was a complete joy. Thank you Brian for all your advice. I've never had such a "smoooooth" shave like this before. The engineering of this razor is so precise, that the result in every detail, design, balance, finish and performance goes without saying. A true investment. There is a leaflet inside the box with the registration number which can be traced to the engineer who created it. Doubt not! Just get one and you will not regret it. Price is irrelevant. Fabulous! from craftsmanship to BBS. Makes you smile.
The best razor ever. I bought this beauty 3 years ago and love it. It's beautifully made and a pleasure to use. I use KoS shaving serum for everyday shaving and it's the perfect partnership for me: a beautiful smooth shave with no razor burn or spots from ingrowing hairs. Expensive? Only the initial outlay. Over 3 years I reckon I'm in pocket over the guys using multi-blade cartridge systems, plus - it will last a lifetime, if not longer!
