This beautifully engineered, open comb Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor will deliver the closest shave possible. You will get a close shave with this razor as the open comb construction exposes more of the blade thus providing a closer than normal shave. Additionally, Muhle have designed the head so that more blade is exposed than compared to a standard type safety razor. This means this razor is very assertive and not one we recommend for beginners.
Those who will enjoy using the R41 include men with thick, coarse bristles and experienced safety razor users. Match up with the Muhle Safety Razor Stand.

Protect you razor when traveling with an Italian made leather Muhle branded razor pouch.

HOW TO USE

Insert a sharp blade into the razor. After applying a pre shave treatment and your shaving soap cream or gel to your face, dip the safety razor into warm water and begin to shave with the razor at around a 30° angle to your face. We recommend that you shave twice with the grain and once against the grain.  Be sure to regularly rinse the blade in warm water between passes.

A very, very close shaver, not at all gung ho, treat it with respect and you'll be fine.
I recommend a good cream such as a Castle Forbes or a Truefitt to give maximum cushioning and glide.
Best to use Personna blades are they are not as Ninja as some others.

Bought this razor after using its closed-comb twin for a while, with the hope that it might work as a daily single-pass razor. At first it felt harsh and really exfoliated my skin, using the enclosed Derby blade. It was quite off-putting and I reverted to the closed comb for about 6 weeks. I then decided to give it another go with a fresh Feather blade and that made a huge difference. I find i can make just a single pass if I'm shaving daily for work, and a double-pass shave feels very smooth indeed.
You certainly can't be as casual with it as with the closed-comb version, which is the reason I've docked half a star. Build quality is superb, it looks good and once your technique is honed it gives a very close shave, with the right blade for your face.

There is a learning curve to using this razor. I tried it with various blades, before settling with Astra SP's. This combination for me is outstanding with the end result a very clean shave. Treat this razor with respect and it will be my go to razor every time.

I bought this razor after using my EJ DE89 which I was more than happy with however I was looking for an open comb razor to complete my razor set. I wasn't sure if it would live up to the hype but it certainly did and without the expected brutality I read so much about.
The build quality and finish was top notch as I expected from
Muhle and for as little as £25 which compares favourably to some of the other similar open comb razors.
If you are careful and appreciate the difference between the open
and closed combs then you need not fear the R41 , just enjoy the closeness of the shave in fewer passes.

Wish I'd bought this razor a lot sooner as I would have saved a lot of money on more expensive D/E's that are now collecting dust on the bathroom shelf. Yes, at first I found it brutal but that was down to the heavy handed style I'd adopted from years of using 'gentler' style razors. The R41 with Feather blade is my go-to daily choice, I simply wash beard area with soap and water, lather up and with just one pass (and a few quick additional up-strokes on the neck area) I get the same close and smooth shave as I do with other razors but without the time and hastle of having to do 3-4 passes.
Just sensible pre-shave prep and holding the razor against the face with a very very light touch akin to the feel of wafting a silk hankerchief across your face for a superb effortless shave everytime. Can't recommend the Muhle R41 highly enough

This delivers a really close shave. It is closer than the R101 but with less blood involved! I used my first generation Claymore this morning but, unusually, was less than happy with the result. My face felt a bit rough all day. I shaved at 10.30 with this one and everything is smooth enough not to worry about it again tomorrow. Throw the Muhle blade in the box away and use a Feather or a Personna though.
