This rare material is not a wood species in its own right but comes from wood that sank into bogs many centuries ago and has undergone various processes of change in that time. This preserves the wood naturally although Muhle has additionally waterproofed the handle. An expressive, dark colour develops due to the tannins in the bog. This means each brush is unique.
The scarcity of these tree trunks today makes this material a genuine rarity. The colouring of the wood varies between brown, dark brown and black-brown. To begin with, square timbers are sawn from the few usable trunk sections and then lathe turned into handles. Several polishes with fine oils provide an additional seal for the surfaces and give them a silky-matt finish.
The chrome plated collar is a nice contrast between the handle and knot of hair.
The high-quality synthetic fibres represent a world first of our own invention. We offer a synthetically produced premium quality whose material characteristics are similar to those of silvertip badger hair. The majority of the users even say that this quality actually provides better performance characteristics than natural hair. The only benefit badger hair has over Silvertip Fibre is badger hair does retain heat and water better than Silvertip Fibre - other than that, we say you're better off with Silvertip Fibre.
'Silvertip Fibre' is very soft at its fine tips but somewhat more stable than natural hair in the middle section. These characteristics produce a pleasant, soft sensation on the skin when the lather is applied, without having to forgo the desired firmness of the hairs in the lathering process. In daily use, the manually processed fibres are less sensitive than natural hair as they dry more quickly and are more resistant to shaving soaps and creams.
The brush comes presented in a Muhle branded presentation box.
35 mm x 110 mm with 21mm diameter knot of silvertip fibre hair
Weight: 84 g
Wet the brush in warm water, flick off excess water. Gently swirl the brush in shaving cream or soap and create a rich, creamy lather. Paint the lather into your bearded area. Don't splay the brush hairs. Once finished, rinse the brush under running water, flick excess water off, gently dab dry with a towel and store the brush upside down on a stand where air can circulate around the brush. Never use hot water on the brush. Hot water will damage the hair and can lead to the hair expanding and splitting the handle. Watch this short yet informative video.
