How to Clean Your Razor

How to Clean Your Razor

We have been unfortunate enough to see some really dirty razors over the years.

It is vitally important that you clean your razor regularly. We recommend cleaning it at least once a month, but in some hard water areas you may need to clean it more often.

Cleaning your razor prevents limescale build up as this can damage the razor and reduce its effectiveness. For razors that have moving integral parts, these can jam and break if limescale is allowed to build up.

A clean razor is also better for your skin as bacteria doesn’t build up inside the razor on old soap scum and beard hairs.

How do I clean my razor?

Follow the simple steps below, depending on wha type of razor you have, to clean your razor.

If you have a OneBlade razor, check out our How to Clean Your OneBlade Razor guide; which contains specific instructions on how best to clean them.

Standard Screw Top DE Razors

If you have a screw top razor, the best way to keep your razor clean is with warm soapy water and a soft nail brush or soft headed tooth brush.

Unscrew the handle from the head and place both the handle and the two head components in the warm soapy water.

Gently brush the individual pieces in the water to remove any deposits.

Once finished rinse with clean water, towel dry and then reassemble.

Adjustable or Butterfly Opening Razors

If you have an adjustable razor, or butterfly opening razor, that has integral moving parts, leave the razor in the warm soapy water for longer.

If it is very dirty use a weak solution of water and vinegar. Leave for about 10 to 20 minutes, then clean as above.

Sonic Cleaner

For the ultimate clean you could buy a sonic cleaner, which will get even the most dirty razors clean.
