Simpsons Luxury Shaving Creams

Simpson's many reckon make the best shaving brushes in the world, their Chubby range enjoys iconic status in the wet shaving world.

So how good are their newly launched range of Simpsons Luxury Shaving Creams?The biggest perk of my job is testing the various samples we get sent to us, I have been testing these creams now for 2-weeks and here's my thoughts.

First impressions, the screw top, aluminium tin packaging although generic looks the part ( I hope so as the Executive Shaving Cream and Soap which are due to launch in late summer 2014 use the same tins). The creams are sold in 125mls only. The new creams which follow on from the now established unscented shaving cream are listed below with my comments:

Citrus Burst: My favourite, expect a blast of citrusy aroma, lemons, limes and oranges, sensational.

Lavender & Vetivert: Pleasantly pungent, top notes of earthy grass, woodiness and lavender.

Cafe Latte: It really does smell of coffee! Notes of cocoa and do I detect a hint of toffee?

Peppermint & Rosemary: Minty and floral, subtle.

Vanilla & Rose: The two scents compliment each other perfectly, surprisingly robust.

Sandalwood: Similar to Castle Forbes and Fitjar, this is a traditional sandalwood scent which means it's smoky and woody and not at all synthetic like for example Taylor's sandalwood shaving cream which is overly sweet.

So, no complaints about the scents, they are characterful and interesting, modern and well thought out.

Lathering up capabilities: I scoop out a small amount about the size of a large baked bean, this is then plopped into a lathering bowl and whipped up with my wet (but not dripping wet) shaving brush for around 45 seconds until the cream is lathered into a rich creamy consistency. A few drops of water are sometimes added to get it to my liking. These creams are a cinch to lather up and in my opinion they are not far off the standard of Castle Forbes and Fitjar, very lubricating and cushioning, enough every time for a three-pass shave and some left over besides. Simpson's claim a tin will provide enough for two-months daily shaving, take it from me, this claim stands up to scrutiny.

Price: £12.95 for 125mls, enough for 2-months works out at 2 pence per shave, a small price to pay for a luxurious shave.

In conclusion, yes, yes and yes, no complaints. Well presented, paraben free, nice scents and they deliver the holy grail which is a close, comfortable, fuss free shave.
