Aftershave balms, lotions and gels soothe and hydrate the skin to replace the oils and nourishment which is lost during shaving. Alum blocks and styptic pencils have anticeptic properties which refresh the skin, reduce any redness or razor burn and importantly, stop bleeding from any minor nicks. You only get one face so you've really got to look after it!
That means moisturising after every shave. The shaving process draws natural oils from the skin, these must be replaced if you want to maintain a fresh complexion.
Many factors can damage your skin including air conditioning, sun, smoking, excess alcohol and unfortunately shaving too.
Normally, the richer the cream the better it is for your face, try to use creams that don't include mineral oils which leave your face shiny and greasy looking.
Definitely avoid creams that contain alcohol which dries the skin and NEVER, EVER apply aftershave or cologne onto a shaved face, the alcohol will pickle your skin. Instead apply to the back of your neck, your chest and your hair - anywhere except your face!
